Art Show to Benefit the Garden

Hello Everyone!

On Friday May 17th there is a very exciting event going on at First Congregational Church!  From 5-7pm there will be an art show featuring work from Johnson School of the Arts that will be for sale!!  Allow me to explain how it all works:

1) There is a minimum price on the art work.  The most affordable artwork will be $5 with some ranging up to $20.  All of the artwork is based on donations- so if you really like a piece you can certainly give more than the minimum amount.  Purchases must be cash and paid on the spot.

2)  The artwork will be sold on a first-come-first-serve basis.  This means that once the artwork is purchased a "SOLD!" sign will be placed on it but left up so people can still admire the work.  All of the artwork will be picked up at 7pm that same night.

3)  I bet you're wondering what is going to be sold at the art show.  GOOD QUESTION!  There will be several different types of art work- bugs that are made from up-cycling materials, photography prints that are matted and ready to be framed, clay pots that have been glazed by students, water color art work, up-cycled wind chimes, and even a couple wooden bar stools that have been painted by Super Snack Lady and her co-worker Amy.

4)  ALL of the donations and proceeds from the art show will go straight to the garden, educational programs, and other garden related events.

5)  This event is the same night as JSA's Blues and BBQ and we are hoping for wonderful weather.  So between eating and catching some of the talent over at the school you should wander across the street, check out the garden, and purchase some artwork!

Check out some photos below for a very small preview of some of the items that will be at the art show.  Get excited and we'll see you in a week and a half!!

Students in the Gardening Enrichment enjoy a snack
of carrots while stringing up beads for wind chimes.
They created patterns with the beads and the strings
got attached to the wind chimes as decorations.

Marissa and Amy show off two of the up-cycled
wind chimes that the students completed.  They are
made from spoons, forks, pans, and other metal
materials that are found in the kitchen.

Here is a preview of 2 of the bar stools that were hand
painted by Super Snack Lady (left) and her co-worker
Amy (right).  Check them out in person on May 17th!
