Summer Education Series at the Garden!

We are very excited to announce that there will be a Summer Education Series at the Gather and Grow Friendship Garden all summer long!!!  There will be many, many different topics for you and your family to explore.  ALL classes are FREE and open to the public.  Check out the first couple classes below and mark your calendars to join the fun!



Digging In!



June 12, 5:30-6:30pm — Compost: Make your own Black Gold
Green Iowa AmeriCorps members
Learn how to make your own rich soil (black gold) easily by composting your food and yard waste.  Stop by the community garden to make a bucket to save food scraps at home for your own compost system or to add to the community bin!

June 19, 6:30pm — Cooking Class
ISU Extension EFNEP educators
Unleash the deliciousness of quiche! Learn how easy it can be to make nutritious meals and even use some produce fresh from the community garden.  Martha Stewart with have nothing on you after this class!

June 27,  6:30pm — Eat Fresh from the Garden
Alicia Aguiar, HyVee Registered Dietitian
Alicia will explain to families the nutrition benefits of eating fresh greens and herbs and preparing dressings, dips and refreshing summer beverages with greens or herbs harvested from the garden.
